Best Songs of 2010: Sean’s Top 60 (60-31)

0 Comments 28 December 2010

We come to the last of The Wounded Jukebox’s Best Songs of 2010 lists. I made an effort to avoid repeating artists on my list in order to include more of the songs that I loved this year. The resulting list is a pretty good representation of the tunes I discovered in 2010. I prefer to let the music speak for itself in most cases. In parentheses, you’ll find links to the first time we posted about these bands or these individual songs. Enjoy!

60. Beach Fossils – “Wide Awake” (May 24)

59. Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros – “Home (RAC Mix)” (April 5)

58. First Aid Kit – “Ghost Town” (June 8)

57. Hot Chip – “I Feel Better” (July 3)

56. The Migrant – “The Organ Grinder” (Sept. 20)

55. Miniature Tigers – “Bullfighter Jacket”

I tried to absorb all of Miniature Tigers 2010 LP Fortress in just a couple of days leading up to their Dec. 3 show opening for Freelance Whales in Columbus. But as it turns out, the band’s tour van broke down and they weren’t able to make it to the show. This song — with its constant energy and simple guitar harmonies — would’ve been a fun one to hear live, I suspect. Some day!

54. Shiv Hurrah – “All My Teeth Fell Out” (June 25)

53. Bear In Heaven – “Lovesick Teenagers”

52. Sallie Ford & The Sound Outside – “Write Me A Letter” (June 11)

51. Elsinore – “Yes Yes Yes” (July 3)

50. Chris Garneau – “Dirty Night Clowns” (Jan. 22)

49. Forest City Lovers – “Light You Up” (June 24)

48. Cashes Rivers – “Tracks” (Aug. 21)

47. Mariage Blanc – “Whatever You Say I Am”

This song jingles and jangles its way through 4 minutes and 24 seconds. Simple, straightforward indie-rock tune that’s a real gem.

46. The Gertrudes – “Wind From The South” (Aug. 13)

45. The Bird Day – “Gonna Beg You” (Sept. 7)

44. The Drums – “Let’s Go Surfing” (June 10)

43. Delorean – “Real Love” (July 26)

In the same vein as their electro-pop brethren Passion Pit, Delorean were one of the more interesting acts TWJ saw at the Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago this past summer. This song is funky and addicting, with its synth and basslines and impressive progression. It has to be at over six minutes long.

42. Skybox – “In A Dream” (March 22May 31)

41. Menomena – “TAOS” (July 31)

40. Matt And Kim – “Cameras” (Nov. 2)

39. The Black Keys – “Next Girl” (July 3)

38. The Hold Steady – “Hurricane J” (May 17)

37. She & Him – “Home” (April 5)

36. Margot & The Nuclear So And So’s – “Bubbleprick” (March 17)

35. Here We Go Magic – “Collector”

With its fast-paced rhythm and shimmering guitars, it’s easy to miss that this song almost sounds like an ode to hoarders. Regardless, it’s an awful lot of fun.

34. Spoon – “Written In Reverse” (Feb. 7, Aug. 11)

33. Janelle Monae featuring Big Boi – “Tightrope”

32. 1,2,3 – “Going Away Party” (May 25, May 31)

31. Future Islands – “Tin Man” (May 17)

The second half, Nos. 30-1, comes your way very soon!
