In an art gallery in the upper-crust district of Paris somewhere, were a group of unhappy aficionados. They pursued and studied the paintings and sculptures in somber silence and moved with stiffened gaits down the aisles. But then a woman wearing a shoulder accentuating black dress and an intriguing haircut came to call. Keren Ann entered and lined up the poor poor empty vessels and taught them to move and dance in the only way they could; using just the hands they had used to point and study and judge, and shown her infinite kindness upon them by allowing their tight emotionless faces to remain. And thus they rocked lazily. Such is the brand new video that accompanies the oh-so-catchy/grabby single “My Name is Trouble” from her forthcoming and 5th album 101 (2/28 EMI Recordings). For a someone that began with soft guitar and hair hiding her features, Keren Ann has become an entirely different animal than what she used to be, even just a year ago. Her reinvention into a sly and beguiling sorceress could either be the product of an image consultant or a dramatic life choice. Too many questions could ruin the effect, but if this song/video is ANY indication, we’re in for a big treat with the self-produced and self-engineered 101. New is good Ms. Ann, may your bowl of hair lead the way.

Also, be most sure to check out the side project Keren Ann has with Baroi Johannsson, an Icelandic musician and producer. It’s beautiful and It’s called Lady & Bird.
