The Chain Gang of 1974: “Heartbreakin’ Scream”

0 Comments 23 May 2011

We here at The Wounded Jukebox want you to be well-equipped to handle the upcoming warm summer nights. An essential ingredient to that preparedness is having tunes to blast at ridiculously-high volumes as you cruise down freeways and roll through neighborhoods. As it turns out, The Chain Gang of 1974 create the perfect dance-rock hybrid to do just that. And the pumping, humming, synth-heavy beat of “Heartbreakin’ Scream” is the latest example of that.

TCGO 1974 is actually Kamtin Mohager, a 25-year from Colorado-via-Hawaii-via-San Jose who once dreamed of playing professional hockey. But Mohager’s turning point moment came with — what else — a dramatic 80′s-movie moment. And once Mohager was enamored with Tears For Fears’ “Everybody Wants To Rule The World,” the seed was planted. What grew was a knack for creating rhythmic, dancefloor-ready music that harkens back to the very decade that shaped Mohager’s musical aspirations.

Mohager’s latest full-length, Wayward Fire, is set for release on June 21 via Modern Art Records. Both “Heartbreakin’ Scream” and the second track we offer here, “Undercover,” are bangers to be sure.
