Faces on Film: Some Weather

2 Comments 28 May 2011

Faces on FilmI found out about this Boston band when Marissa Nadler announced they would be touring with her this coming July.  Faces on Film is the project of songwriter Mike Fiore, who also offers his vocals for the group.  I really enjoy the mixture of rock and country tones that stand behind each song. The alt-country can be felt especially on their forthcoming album Some Weather (July 19th).  “Moon’s Row” is a boisterous stutter-step, with leaping and pausing guitar charges filled with the hidden message of the song.   And when you see the video of Fiore’s live performance (below) for “Harlem Roses”, another track off the album,  you could be easily forgiven for thinking the baby of Robin Pecknold and Ryan Adams has come from the future to visit us.  But Faces on Film have a style unique enough to gently claw its way into your heart.

Imagine the results of a duet with Ms. Nadler during the shows…that would be wonderful!

“Indicator Indicator” is a raw track from their 2008 record, The Troubles.

Very cool stuff reminds me of neil young kinda (esp. the voice + the full band vs. solo takes on songs). Thanks for posting!

Yeah, I’ve seen the Neil Young comparison a few times, but I don’t hear it! My fault probably. Thanks for commenting!
