Let’s make this clear. The new video from Beirut for “Santa Fe” is NOT meant to be taken seriously. If the close ups of little puppy-dog Betsy and lover dearest don’t give it away, the on again, off again joy of the man dowsing himself in gasoline and immediately frolicking into the ocean may. It’s a beautifully shot tongue-in-cheek homage to the typically dour indie video seen all too often these days. And “Santa Fe” is far too joyous a track (though perhaps not lyrically) to suffer under a French black and white pityfest. We should all run so free with arms so full of cash.
