We Are The City: “Happy New Year”

0 Comments 26 September 2011

I’m a sucker for bands that brandish their hearts like cufflinks — right on their sleeves. And if they get a bit quirky while doing it, all the better. We Are The City, a prog-rock outfit from British Columbia, are just such a band. This song from their High School EP is full of nice little tempo shifts and chunky guitar riffs, and vocalist Cayne McKenzie sings with just the right amount of quake in his voice to match the “hey I’m better than that guy you picked, and I think you should let me take you out some time” storyline here.

“Happy New Year” is only 2 minutes and 21 seconds long, but it’s got plenty going for it. Download below.
