Off a brand new EP entitled The Way Sound Leaves A Room, Sarah Jaffe gives us a song of the same name that might go down as a favorite for the year.  “The Way Sound Leaves A Room” is gorgeous.  But even more so is the cinematography done by Chris Phelps on the accompanying concert DVD for the EP.  Sparse and natural, and mellowed in sunsets, the videos below are a treat for the eye.

Eddy B & Tim Gunter are a hip-hop duo from Raleigh, N.C. In fact, they attend rival universities (North Carolina and N.C. State), but have found common ground in producing solid underground hip-hop. Way back when, we featured their “Bittersweet Symphony”-sampling track “Time Will Only Tell,” and the pair are back with “All Alone,” a low-key number about distinguishing the bandwagon fans and friends from the ones who really care about you, and how lonely that task can make someone feel.

Eddy B serves the role of emcee in this pairing, and his flow moves from slow and staggered to fast and biting, the latter happening mostly when he’s punctuating a point. The production here from Gunter is steady and solid, with some layers that play well off one another. It’s a pretty somber track, and I appreciate the inner turmoil the pair are getting at here. The pair’s new mixtape “Insomniac Dreams” is said to be dropping within the next couple of weeks.
