Something really interesting and kind of experimental popped into our inbox the other day, and I can’t seem to put my finger on why it’s resonating with me. Perhaps it’s the fact that the tracks I’ve listened to from San Francisco artist collaborative Tree are off-kilter and, well… different than what we typically get for submission. As best I can tell, the group is comprised of a handful of rotating members, but Oliver Tree Nickell is the main musical force for these dudes. It’s hard to tell exactly what each member does, even with the descriptions given on Tree’s Facebook page, and there are also frequent guest vocalists, producers and rappers. So just enjoy.
The three tracks we offer up here are a pretty good example of how varied the styles are for this promising group. That variation is a welcome treat for my ears today, and I hope it’ll strike something in yours as well. Bands I hear elements of in these three tracks: Stars, Cloud Cult, Why?, and perhaps a little bit of Radical Face thrown in. Check it out!
