Patrick Watson has the kind of lovely voice that whispers in your ear and sounds as if it might float away on the next breeze. He’s also got a dynamite cast of characters supporting him on his new album Adventures In Your Own Backyard. That fact is on full display on the album’s first single “Into Giants,” which is just brimming with beauty. Guitars and snaps, horns and handclaps, choir-like backing vocals and just a general sense of wonder populate “Into Giants” and guide it through a gentle beginning to a toe-tapping midsection and all the way to its gorgeous crescendo. Watson’s band — bassist Mishka Stein, guitarist Simon Angell and drummer Robbie Kuster — are all in fine form.
Watson and co. will tour in support of Andrew Bird beginning this May, just after Adventures In Your Own Backyard drops on April 30 on Domino Records and Secret City. It should be quite a treat for concertgoers to hear this group as an opener. Stream/download “Into Giants” below.
