There’s plenty of reasons why Feist’s latest album Metals was TWJ’s No. 2 album of 2011, and No. 3 on my 2011 songs list. “The Bad In Each Other” opens Metals with a bang, and it instantly became my favorite song on the record. The drums, the horns, the clatter of it all — and in the middle of it is Leslie Feist’s wonderful voice. It makes sense that this song became the next video, as it lends itself to all kinds of interpretations. The video was shot in Mexico, a place Feist seemed quite enamored with when she played some dates there recently. The storylines that are presented in this near-6 minute clip connect in some ways, but for the most part the video just gives a glimpse into the way a number of people live their lives from day to day. There’s sadness, there’s care and there’s comfort. There’s anger and there’s jealousy and lust. It’s more about observation than it is about narration. The video debuted yesterday, and you can watch it above and check out the current single “How Come You Never Go There” — as well as a remix by Beck — below.
