Parade of Lights: “Just Give It Up”
It might be that, late at night, I have some sort of cosmic weakness for catchy, synth-driven electro-pop. Or it could be that Parade of Lights‘ EP Born To Live, Born To Love is that damn cool. These songs are big and ballsy, with thumping beats and sweeping, echoing vocals that only serve to make the scale grander. The layers here are dense and feel as though they are filling every space available. Particularly “Just Give It Up” has an M83 feel, and we all know how this blog felt about Anthony Gonzalez’s latest output.
“Only Human” feels a tad like another Los Angeles band we featured not long ago, Youngblood Hawke. My other favorite is “Flash Of Light,” which features some pretty kickass saxophones, again a la M83. You’ll hear bits of Passion Pit or The Killers in other spots on this EP, too. Truth be told, I enjoyed the whole darn thing.
Parade of Lights is Ryan Daly and Anthony Improgo, and Born To Live, Born To Love is available now on iTunes.
