Generationals: “Put A Light On”
We are less than one month now from the release of Heza, the new full-length from NOLA natives Generationals. This newest single, “Put A Light On,” seems to be a sort of combination between Matt & Kim and Phoenix, with its head-bobbing guitar jangle and simple vocal harmony turned up just a smidge too loud. What’s interesting are the electronic effects that aid the beat here — they sound a bit like a computer trying to mimic the sound of dripping water in an empty cave and then mashing it through some melodic algorithm. And the beat is steady and simple and accented by handclaps, and great.
What we’ve heard thus far of Heza makes it seem as though we’ll get everything from Twin Shadow-esque heavy synths and 80’s riffs to marvelous modern-day chopped up guitars and digital samples. Whatever these dudes have put together for their latest Polyvinyl release, it will be fun to listen to. Because from the moment I heard “Ten-Twenty-Ten” in 2011 and went searching for everything I could find by these two, I have thoroughly enjoyed all that I’ve discovered. Can’t wait for Heza!
