Wise Blood: “Rat”
If you’re anything like me, you were intrigued by These Wings, the short-and-sweet EP that Chris Laufman, aka Wise Blood, released in 2011. It was an interesting blend of old-time influences and modern-day mixwork, excelling in creating harmony out of a mass of noise and instrumentation. And then Laufman more or less disappeared for a little over a year before word escaped recently that a debut full-length is on the horizon for the Pittsburgh native. The record is titled id, though it may have originally been I.D., and is set to be released June 25, 2013 on Dovecote Records.
“Rat” follows in the same vein as what we’ve previously heard from Wise Blood, and the lyrics might be about battling inner demons, one of those terrifying rodent phenomenons, or it could be some metaphor we’re not privy to. In any event, the song is interesting for its horns and cymbal crashes and fuzzy samples. Listen to the track below, and also check out a teaser for id that features Dog The Bounty Hunter. Somehow, this makes sense.
