15. Son Lux – “You Don’t Know Me”
Because: It’s heavy and dramatic, even for a Son Lux song.

14. Sufjan Stevens – “The Only Thing”
Because: This song (and album, really) goes back to the basics- Sufjan and his guitar.
13. Joy Williams – “Woman (Oh Mama)”
Because: Girl power. This song makes me feel like a super hero.
12. Ryn Weaver – “Octa-Hate”
Because: I love the juxtaposition of sweet, poppy verses with a much punchier chorus.
11. Seinabo Sey – “Hard Time”
Because: The driving rhythm that makes this song feel almost tribal.

10. Raury – “God’s Whisper”
Because: I made my sister listen to this song and she liked it. If our completely different tastes in music can agree on a song, it has to be really good.
9. San Fermin – “Jackrabbit”
Because: Even though it’s very different from their last album, it still has two of the things I love most about San Fermin: glorious trumpet and saxophone lines.
8. The Decemberists – “Make You Better”
Because: It’s a new song with that classic Decemberists feel. And because Colin Meloy.
7. Kendrick Lamar – “i”
Because: This song motivates me to get up and run. Which is a huge deal, because running is hard.
6. Passion Pit – “Lifted Up (1985)”
Because: It sounds like Passion Pit, and I like Passion Pit.
5. Death Cab For Cutie – “Black Sun”
Because: You know Ben Gibbard sways back and forth every time he plays this song.
4. Florence + The Machine – “Ship To Wreck”
Because: Of the quiver in Florence’s voice every time she sings “to wreeeeeeeeeeeck.”
3. Matt and Kim – “Get It”/”Hey Now”
Because: Both songs have the kind of killer musical hooks that I love and expect from Matt and Kim.
Ben Folds – “Capable of Anything”
Because: I listened to this song on repeat for five hours straight the day he released it. No joke.
Misterwives – “Our Own House”
Because: It makes me feel like I’m at prom in a 90’s movie. That ska, though.
1. Twenty One Pilots – “Stressed Out”
Because: I love every song on this album, but this one really speaks to me as a hyper-nostalgic twenty-something who’s already tired of hearing “wake up you need to make money.”
Owl City (ft. Hanson) – “Unbelievable”
