Matt’s Bestest Songs of the Week: 8/10/15
Amidst calloused ankles and scary new neighbor ladies, our attempt at a weekly musical collage returns! Read on for a simple list of songs that will help fuel you through your work and various conquerings.
Ezra Furman – “I Can Change” (LCD Soundsystem Cover)
Because: The Chicago native keeps the spirit of this James Murphy song burning by dousing it with a bucket of reality.
Canary – “Women’s Business”
Because: It’s kind of Canary’s thing, to boogie with a bunch of friends to a song that sounds like it’s coasting down a hill at night.
Gabrielle Aplin – “Sweet Nothing”
Because: Aplin’s new single is a catchy example of a joyously buoyant song with lyrics that don’t match. Just ignore them and dance.
Youth Lagoon – “Highway Patrol Stun Gun”
Because: The piano heavy tune smooths Trevor Powers’ grating vocals in a Nerds Rope type of combination of flavors.
Jain – “Come”
Because: You’ll just really like the video.
Wavves x Cloud Nothings – “No Life For Me”
Because: Your ears almost won’t make it out of the sonic quicksand of this collaboration, but wouldn’t it just be amazing to see this song live?
The National Parks – “Monsters of the North”
Because: A radio friendly pop hit with gorgeous strings propping it up ain’t nothing to sneeze at.
Bon Voyage – “Booshie”
Because: When a hip hop artist sings more about his mom in a song about girls, you know you’ve hit gold.
Clean Cut Kid – “Vitamin C”
Because: The guitars and drums have both middle fingers up but the vocals from this English group are buying you a well-earned pint.
Little Tybee – “Tuck My Tail”
Because: Can’t you just daydream the hell out of this song?
Farao – “Hunter”
Because: Kari Jahnsen is a Norwegian meadow sprite that learned how to use the internet and discovered Kate Bush and synthesizers.
Have a good one! We’ll be back next week!
