Matt’s Bestest Songs of the Week: 8/17/15
Have you ever been told by a Serbian AAA roadside assistance mechanic that you’re the customer he’s EVER had? If you have, you know it’s a feeling of pure sugary elation and you’ll see nothing but Mary Poppins clouds and rainbows for the rest of the week. But you can only receive such an honor if you’re in EXTRA dire straits on edge of a freeway and you’ve already done all the grunt work of removing said dead battery from your car by the time he gets there. You’re the best in the biz Robert, and a stand up guy. Here’s to you.
Jack Colwell – “Don’t Cry Those Tears”
Because: A younger more vibrant Jack Ladder, Jack of the Colwell variety is the freshest Australian soul, and he’ll croon his way under your fingernails.
Saintseneca – “Sleeper Hold”
Because: Sounding more and more akin to Dr. Dog, only with femalien vocals mixed into their huggable harmonies, Saintseneca has done everything they possibly can to provide you with absolutely zero reasons for you not to fall madly in love with them and Zac Little’s mustache.
Korallreven – “Here In Iowa”
Because: When one of your favorite musical oddities up and calls it quits as a band, but releases a swan song as a goodbye/thankyouverymuch to fans, and it’s fairly perfect you get a little verklempt and need to share it with someone. (Pssst, that’s you!)
Ghostpoet – “Sorry My Love, It’s You Not Me” (ft. Lucy Rose)
Because: Came for Lucy Rose’s buttery smooth vocals, stayed for Ghostpoet’s slippery slick production.
American Wrestlers – “I Can Do No Wrong”
Because: A song that sounds as if it’s getting crushed between two Teddy Ruxbins, you can practically swim in the fuzz and distort. But the REGS (rhythmic electronic guitar sound) picks it up, shakes it a bit, and tosses it right into your ear holes.
Land Lines – “Plans”
Because: I have a thing for unavailable lyrics that sound as if they’d leave me after a night of drink-in-hand-dancing and dark corner tonsil broomball.
Susanne Sundfør – “Fade Away”
Because: What the actual frick IS IT about Sundfør’s voice that hits your aural sweetspot? Besides the Norwegian accent, I mean. Let me know in the comments bebla bla bleh.
Kaskade – “Disarm You” (ft. Ilsey)
Because: Technically formulaic as the majority of electronic tunes with airy pop vocal accompaniment goes, Kaskade’s new song has a shelf life of about a week for your mind, but “Disarm You” is ideal fodder for a night of dancing with your manliest mates. (Pretty please someone go dancing with me?)
Princess Chelsea – “We Were Meant 2 B”
Because: It’s so completely aware of itself in every way that it becomes downright reflective to any sort of criticism. “We Were Meant 2 B” is a 14 year-old girl’s entry into a AC/DC themed diary.
Christopher Paul Stelling – “Warm Enemy”
Because: For Pete’s sake, that guitar finger work is masterful. Can’t you just feel the cabins and bonfires?
Thanks for perusing! Come on back next week for more!
