Niki & The Dove: “So Much It Hurts”
Niki & The Dove (Malin Dahlström and Gustaf Karlöf respectively) make the perfect pop music for the discerning nostalgian. If you have any love for the 80’s brand of synthetic grooves, the Swedish duo will cause your love will grow ten times any day. When they first emerged in 2010, standing up quietly in the corner of the music scene, they took the form of psychedelic-Kate Bush-glitter-imbued sirens who communicated through natural imagery and tribal percussives. More recently though, the pair have traded in their hemp slacks and walking sticks for blue jeans and metro-cards.
“So Much It Hurts” wallows and begs its way into your ears, searching hand-over-eyes for the love it (mainly between its legs) needs. It wouldn’t be out of place as an subway ride anthem for your coincidental pining for a significant other three significant others ago. Together with the high step and shuffling bassline, the synthetic thrusts are the mecha-mighty steeds Dahlström’s vocals sprawl over. If you can’t see a lost lonely night time ambulating lover grasping for hope in your mind when you hear Niki & The Dove’s first single of 2016, maybe the impeccably-toned/pitch-perfect video will be of help.
